Our Mission: To provide an avenue through which those far from God can come to know the love of Christ.

Our story

First Blessing was founded by Glenn and Deborah Lackey to help volunteers at First Baptist Church Temple engage the community and bring new people to Christ. Given his history in shoe sales, Glenn knew that many kids in the community went without new, well-fitting shoes and socks. Through much prayer, God blessed Glenn and Deborah with the idea of First Blessing, a ministry to engage the church with the community. With each event every child would share a meal with members of the congregation in a loving environment and leave with well-fitting socks and shoes and a bible. The inaugural First Blessing occurred at FBC Temple in 2014, where 300 children and their parents were reached. God has blessed us with substantial growth since then. In 2019, First Blessing will reach twenty-four churches across Texas and two orphanages in Haiti with a potential combined total of over 4000 kids and parents reached annually.
